According
to news from New York Times, Facebook is going to ban private
gun sales on its own website. This step is taken by Facebook to avoid selling
of ammunition and gun
parts, person-to-person gun sales. In last 3 years Facebook has been on top of
selling and buying products from social media. Already, Facebook has blocked
selling of illegal drugs, marijuana and pharmaceuticals through social network.
You
might want to note down real fact that at the time of change in Facebook policy
in 2014, they only banned sales on their site but still gun dealers were
allowed to promote their gun products online. So, new policy will/may bar
unlicensed private individuals from selling firearms online. But licensed firm
can buy and sell firearms on Facebook network.
The move of banning firearm sales was brought by
Facebook in response to US president Barack Obama urge to clamp down gun sales organization in debate on issues related to access of guns after mass shootings
in US. Monicka Bickert, Facebook’s product policy Head said that Facebook is
still continuing to develop; test and launch new products and this will be reflected
via our regulated goods policy. The National Rifle Association, US have not
made its view clear on firearm ban.
